a rolling stone gathers no moss
The evolution of this quote follows:
Ancient proverb: credited to Publilius Syrus, who believed that a person who does not settle in one place will not accumulate wealth or status, or responsibilities or commitments.
1960’s: The Rolling Stones, literally touring the world (by demand) as living legends of the rock era, making millions, disproving Pubilius Syrus.
2016: Pretty girls with money have millions of sponsors on instagram.
Now I don’t know if Publilius Syrus is a real person and while I personally love the Rolling Stones and don’t love most models, I think the meaning of the quote simply depends on your perspective--- just like everything else.
The idea is that moss will only grow on a stone that remains still.
The three variables at play are: moss, stone, and movement.
if Stone = you, Moss = all the Good things, then remaining Still, or settling into a lifestyle = Not.
(…hold that thought…)
